(Reuters Health) - New versions of the electronic cigarette known as Vape pins not much conventional cigarettes might look like, but as someone using synthetic gaskets triggers the urge to smoke, a new study suggests.
Like other types of electronic cigarettes, vaporizers or vape pens are battery-powered devices made with a heating element that converts liquid nicotine and aromas into a vapor cloud has inhale user. Vape pens are larger, produce larger clouds of steam and look less like traditional cigarettes than other e-cigarettes.
In a laboratory experiment, 108 young adult smokers randomized researchers to a person to interact with Vape from either conventional cigarettes or springs. Both scenarios led to a similar increase in participants' request to smoke a cigarette but never tried a vaporizer pen.
These findings were a surprise and doubts about the possibility that electronic cigarettes stop smoking as a help for smoking, said study author Andrea King, professor of psychiatry research at the University of Chicago.
"Smoking be aware that - like Pavlov's dogs salivating a bell associated with food - cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, etc. may want high and reward brain smoking alarm system," said King e-mail.
"Our findings suggest that smokers may want to reduce their exposure to the use of electronic cigarettes and traditional cigarettes," the king added.
The big American tobacco companies are the development of e-cigarettes. In the decade since cam devices in the US market, experts have public health regiment, could help if they quit smoking, or at least a safer alternative to conventional cigarette smokers alternative fuel, or could attract a new addiction generation to Nicotine,
This study did not exploit the safety of the equipment, but not the possibility in question, which the electronic cigarettes asked bluntly to help for cigarettes.
In his experiment, King and his colleagues smoked Call Screening in 108 men and women aged 18 to 35 years, who currently smoked about nine cigarettes a day on average.
More than 80 percent of participants had also tried e-cigarettes at least once, and nearly 30 percent had used it last month.
If people volunteered for the study, they told researchers that they would be invited to participate in an experiment to evaluate their mood after certain full tasks or social interactions. Participants did not know the experience was actually smoking assess their need.
In the lab, participants spoke with researchers from other volunteers. During this interaction, pretend that you voluntarily did not traditionally smoked a cigarette to use snuff or pen flaps. Both of these signs increase desire among the research topics of a cigarette or electronic cigarette.
Smoking The amount and duration of the volunteer impulse was the same, the cigarette or pencil researchers observed with the evaporator. When researchers drank bottled water, however, volunteers had to smoke no change in desire or evaporator.
At the end of the experiment, the researchers tested the ability to resist smoking in a group of 26 volunteers who were daily smokers. The researchers put the cigarettes, cigarettes and ashtrays in front of the volunteers and said they could smoke 20 cents for every five minutes or get them resisted.
Most volunteers performed only 20 minutes, and this delay was the same if their partner had previously been using the vaporizer pen or a cigarette, according to the study.
One limitation of the study is its small size and laboratory setting making it difficult to know how Vape feathers influence the smokers in situations in which it sees real life invites, the authors into nicotine research and tobacco.
However, the results suggest the vapers may make it harder for smokers to stop smoking, Dr. Brian Primack said, a researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, who was not involved in the study.
